| Ciragan Palace Kempinski Hotel / Istanbul, Turkey Ciragan Palace, the restored 10 hectare Ottoman Palace, sits along the European shore of the Bosphorus. The history of the Ciragan Palace and its site dates back to the 16th Century when it stood beside the seaside villa of Admiral of the Fleet, Kilic Ali Pasha. In the 18th Century it was replaced by a wooden mansion which the ruling Grand Vizier, Damat Ibrahim Pasha had built for his wife. The palace acquired its name from the torch ("Ciragan") festivities held by the Grand Vizier who loved pageantry and celebrations. Lee and Associates provided comprehensive landscape architectural services blending a newly constructed 240-room luxury hotel into the site with fountains, a waterfront promenade, and extensive Ottoman garden area, using indigenous plant materials. |
