Lee + Papa and Associates (LPA) along with Gaone (landscape design firm in Seoul) and DA architects designed and developed the 52.3 acre, 4266 residence units in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The design team proposed the layouts of the streets and the buildings to achieve the maximum view-shed for the Tien-Shan Mountains. When developing the southern housing blocks, LPA employed the undulating nomadic landscape and incorporated it into the intriguing area gardens. These gardens are attached to the Silk Road Retail Strip (main pedestrian spine). On the northern housing, LPA suggested a series of steps of water lead the pedestrian movement to the northern end of the site and animate the pedestrian experiences. For the core commercial blocks, as the procession flows from the main entrance plaza to the enclosed terminal plaza, the spaces accentuate the dynamics of the events and the shopping experiences with the water channels; the various sized outdoor stages; and the gathering places. |
