Suzhou International University Research Park (SIURP) is located outside the perimeter of downtown Suzhou and its major ring highway. Suzhou is known as one of China’s most historic and prosperous cities benefiting from its agriculture and location along ancient trade routes. SIURP is centrally located within the 80km Shanghai, Kunshan, Suzhou, and Wuxi technology and manufacturing corridor. SIURP will be built on ancient rice paddies situated adjacent to the new High Speed Rail line running between Nanjing and Shanghai, and its borders are defined by canals, roadways, and the northernmost extension of the Xiangcheng Central Business District.

The SIURP site encompasses over 3200 acres, of which roughly 18 percent consists of waterways. Of the 444 acres within the boundaries of phase 1, roughly 25 percent consists of waterways. Water is the most important design factor in this project considering the numerous canals which flow through the site are valued for transportation infrastructure as well as their environmental and visual amenity.

This visionary ultra-sustainable city is the cornerstone of a business model created to attract US and European university research programs to a new international science park. Once established, the research and development platforms for US and European universities and their industry partners will have access to Chinese capital, talent, and markets. SIURP will be the vibrant “Live/Work/Play” environment that is ideal for the collaboration and exchange of ideas essential for university research related activities.
