/ Penn Quarter, a mixed use development in Downtown Washington, DC, incorporates historic building façades while optimizing developable space through new construction providing 405 housing units, 31,700 square feet of arts uses, a 250 seat theater, 80,000 square feet of street level retail, and 550 parking spaces. Lee and Associates won GSA's ìDesign/Development Package Competitionî to provide comprehensive landscape architectural services for this commission. The project included streetscape design for 3 sides of the city block, a semi-public interior courtyard for residents, and roof gardens covering the entire structure. In total, the design covered 44,500 square feet of plaza, courtyard, and roof gardens. Proportion, diversity of use, and historic and architectural character were carefully considered for all common areas. |
