His educational background includes studies in landscape architecture theory/design, as well as urban design and master planning. He has a Landscape Contracting Undergraduate Degree from Pennsylvania State University and a Masters of Landscape Architecture from North Carolina State University. He has participated as both a designer and planner in land planning, landscape architecture, and urban design projects through all stages from conception through construction. Some of his projects include the Department of Transportation Headquarters at the South East Federal Center, Washington DC, the P Street Reconstruction Project, Pentagon 9/11 Memorial, and the Duke Street Pedestrian Concourse. Prior to joining Lee + Papa, Mr. Atkins was a designer at Susan Hatchell Landscape Architecture, a landscape architecture firm in North Carolina. He has also developed his skills at Elam, Todd, & d'Ambrosi, a landscape architecture and land planning firm located in North Carolina.
