Cultural Resources
  Our Practice / Cultural resources

Cultural resources convey and reflect how people have shaped their world by providing evidence of human thought, activity, and accomplishment. Historic districts, sites, architecture, artifacts, ruins, objects, works of art, natural features, or landscapes can be considered cultural resources. Because they are singularly significant, cultural resources are considered non-renewable.

Washington, DC, a capitol city unique in both the nation and the world, is located in a naturally rich and culturally diverse region. The city’s urban layout reflects the genius of a master planner. The grid of streets is filled with marble facades and monuments interspersed between two great rivers, among acres of parks and designated reservations.

Cultural resources may be obvious- like the monuments- or obscure, like a languished streetscape no longer evident as the Federal City’s first commercial corridor. The ability to recognize and sensitively respond to the significance of a place adds a unique element to our design solutions, one that enriches our approach to important projects.

We offer cultural resources among our specialized services because great design recognizes and respects the context of great places.
